In a recent, exclusive interview with Hollywood Unlocked, R&B singer turned chef, Kelis revealed major details that she suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her former husband and New York rap icon, Nas.
Kelis parallels her situation with Nas to the domestic abuse case of 2009 between Chris Brown and Rihanna.
“Something reminded me of Rihanna,” she said in the clip. “I remember so clearly when the pictures came out with that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown. The only way I could describe it was like double-dutch, like, ‘Do I jump in? Do I say it?’ Because I had bruises all over my body at that time.”
“I’m not weak and I’m really private,” she said, adding that she felt at the time that the marriage and partner she chose held priority over anything else. “I’m not frail, I’m not scared, I’m not weak.”
The news quickly stirred up the internet as one was only paying attention to Kanye West’s antics up to this point.
