A Tribe Called Quest star Ali Shaheed Muhammad has partnered with composer Adrian Younge for a new collaborative album.
Together they form, The Midnight Hour, which is a jazz and hip-hop collaborative project the pair first conceived back in 2013. Their song, “Questions,” ended up being sampled by Kendrick Lamar for his untitled “06 | 06.30.2014” track that appeared on his untitled unmastered album.
“It is a joy to create The Midnight Hour with our friends who were willing to take the musical journey with us to make something special that is a departure from the status quo,” Muhammad and Younge said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “The Midnight Hour represents the black idiom in regards to jazz, hip-hop and cinematic soul for a new generation.”
The album is set for release on June 8, nine months after Muhammad played his final show with A Tribe Called Quest bandmates Q-Tip and Jarobi White.
