In a recent sit-down with LL Cool J’s Sirius XM radio show Rock The Bells Radio, Eminem discussed multiple topics, one of them being how his “Stan” record came to be.

“Stan” is widely regarded as an iconic single, which has transcended so much that it’s even listed in the Oxford Dictionary.

“I basically put myself in the fan’s shoes.” Eminem said when talking about the song.

“I absolutely wanted to be like you [LL Cool J]. I wanted to be like Run-DMC. Something about it. It was the energy — you could just say what you wanna say. You could talk about your life and talk about shit that bothers you. I just gravitated toward it and never strayed from the first day I heard a rap song.”

Eminem is the first guest in LL’s new show, this episode is set to premiere on Saturday, Sep. 1 at 12 p.m. PST.
