Kevin Hart has caused outrage after several of his old tweets resurfaced in which he’s using homophobic slurs toward others. A similar thing happened to Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon earlier this year, after Twitter users dug deep into Hart’s profile to find the questionable jokes. The comedian used the word “gay” in a derogatory manner about things he thought were homosexual. He has since announced earlier this week that has stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars.
After seeing this @benfraserlee tweet, I did a search for every time Kevin Hart tweeted “fag,” “homo,” or “gay.” It was…a lot. And he seems to have basically stopped tweeting those words after 2011 — i.e. the year his first stand-up movie became a hit. https://t.co/P8nTOilFgx pic.twitter.com/6uzPhnvt4F

Hart posted a video in which he apologizes to the LGBT community. “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s,” the comedian said. “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
The Academy had offered Hart the option to back out before letting him go, meaning the move was somewhat forced on him.
