Jay-Z and Timbaland got slapped with a whopping 2 million dollar lawsuit for the alleged use of Ernie Hines’ 1969 single “Help Me” which he claims Jay Z and Timbaland sampled on “Paper Chase” from the album Vol 2. Hard Knock Life released in 1998. Hines’, who composed and co-wrote the song, states that he was probably unaware of the track due to his age.

Additionally, Def Jam, Roc-A-Fella Records, Sony Music, and Universal Music Group are being sued along with Jay Z and Timbaland in alleged failure to clear the sample.

According to The Blast, Hines’ lawyer, Christopher Brown, says that “Hines is a senior citizen who does not listen to rap music and was unaware.”

In addition, Timbaland also allegedly sampled Hines’ “Help Me” track on Ginuwine’s 1999 single, “Toe 2 Toe” which sold 2 million copies worldwide.
