Kawhi Leonard is the talk of the NBA free-agency. Not only is the Toronto star reserved on the court, he manages to keep his business private and has kept many speculating on his next move. Leonard, however, has still been contacting prospective teams and laying out his demands on the low. With Kawhi looking to meet with the Lakers, Clippers, and the Raptors, it appears that he’s looking to do things on his term this time around.
According to Broderick Turner of the L.A. Times, Kawhi and his uncle have already been meeting with Lakers’ legend and former president of basketball operations for the team, Magic Johnson about the possibility of joining the Los Angeles squad. It’s important to note that even with this said, Johnson no longer works with the team.
On the possibility that Leonard joins the Lakers, he has some demands for the franchise. According to Turner, Leonard would like to be able to bring his own entourage and staff with him, including trainers. “LeBron James was able to bring on his own trainer, his own medical people. (Kawhi) wants to know if he can do that as well,” Turner said. “LeBron James brought on some people that weren’t with the Lakers, and he wants to know ‘can I bring with a couple of my guys?’ … And as far as I know, the Lakers would be willing to do that, because you do those things for superstar players.”
Considering the problems Kawhi has had with the San Antonio Spurs medical staff during the 2017-2018 season, it’s reasonable that he would ask for this.
