Earlier this year, Salt-N-Pepa announced that they would be going on the road with New Kids On The Block for their The Mixtape Tour. However, DJ Spinderella was quick to point out that she wasn’t included on the tour. In fact, their legendary DJ was sent packing with a “termination” email instead.
According to TMZ, the group’s problems started back in 1999 with The Best Of Salt-N-Pepa album. Spinderella is now suing the group as she was reportedly set to receive a third of the royalties for the record and $125,000, due to a promise made in a call. The DJ claims she was never paid.
The lawsuit also claims Spinderella was excluded from a VH1 show centered around Salt-N-Pepa’s rise to prominence. She claims she was paid less than was promised to her, even going as far as to say that she wasn’t paid for their 2018 Billboard Music Awards appearance. With that, the DJ got in touch with SoundExchange, which stated that Salt-N-Pepa had received over $600,000 in royalties in the last 10 years. Spinderella says that she has not received money from the royalties mentioned.
Hopefully the group can work this situation out, considering the legendary status of the group.
