As the forthcoming Salt-N-Pepa biopic gears up for its release, there’s some internal things many people may have not been aware of. When it comes to playing someone else’s character, one would think an immediate family member could be the perfect person to play that role. However, this didn’t reign true for Pepa’s daughter, Egypt Criss, who auditioned to play her mom.
In a recent interview with The Talk, Pepa and her daughter talked about how them being related did not work out in their favor. “When she went for the audition, because you know I’m going to let her do the whole process, she came back out like, ‘Mom, everything you taught me was wrong,” Pepa said.
Apparently, production was putting their own spin on Pepa’s life, whether or not it was completely accurate. “It was the opposite,” Egypt explained. “She was like, ‘Oh, but it’s me though?’ I was like, ‘They didn’t want it like that.’ It was the opposite. I was like ‘Oh, so never mind.'”
The film is set to air on Lifetime sometime in the near future.
