MTV has announced the nominees of this year’s video music awards, some of which include, The Carters, Bruno Mars, and Childish Gambino, as notable names. But when it comes to making music videos, not many come close to Missy Elliott. It’ll also be the night she’ll be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

It took many years for recognition, but LL Cool J was the first rapper to ever win the award in 1997. Music video director, Hype Williams was honored with it back in 2006. But this year is the year of Missy Elliott.
