Once again, the Long Beach Convention Center held their third annual ComplexCon weekend. The event highlights new drops in clothing, star-studded panels where media masterminds talk about the world of entertainment, performances by artists of today and much more.
Saturday morning hit with lines circulating the block around the Convention Center. Eager fans awaited for the doors to open so they could be let inside to enjoy what was going down at the event. When doors opened at 11 a.m., fans could enjoy Full Size Run, a group of guys discussing the biggest sneaker news and what you should or shouldn’t be copping that weekend.
This was followed up by the ComplexCon(Versation), New God Flow: How to Make a Rap Album in 2018. The panel composed of Raekwon, Sickamore, Young Guru, No I.D. and Wayno went on to talk about qualifies an album ‘great’ and how the albums they’ve worked on lasted the test of time.
The following conversation took place at the lounge area, composed of Jemele Hill, Victor Cruz, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Pierce Simpson, Jerry Lorenzo and Filayyyy, they went on to talk about the infamous Jordan vs. Iverson discussion. While the two greats influenced the world of fashion, the panel discusses the merits the two hold in the world of sports.
At around 2 p.m., Vince Staples was sat in the hot-seat with Pierce Simpson to go question for question where no topic is off limits. Sitting down with Vince and Pierce was Long Beach legend, Snoop Dogg, who mentioned his love for the newer generation of rappers and how the current state of hip hop is taking the genre to unimaginable heights.
During the panels, performances by SPACEGODAPOLLO, Jack Harlow, Trill Sammy, Lou The Human, Michael Christmas, A-Trak, Nav, Vince Staples and Rae Sremmurd were taking place.
Following up to day two, many day one visitors made their way back to the center for another day of Complex celebrations. This time more people made their way to the First We Feast Lagoon, which held more than 30 of the best food trucks in Southern California as well as more established fast-food chains.
After lunch, visitors went back to the exhibitions and KDAY fans would be met with a Death Row Records booth. The site was composed of walls highlighting the mutiple talents on the label and many shirts on-sale with artist’s logos. Not so far, another on-site exhibition was Snoop Dogg’s 25th anniversary shirt collection area and Wu-Tang’s booth with Wu-gear for fans to cop.
Back at the Grand Ballroom, a conversation highlighting the importance of the movie “Belly” was taking place. Involved in the talk was Nas, T-Boz, Hype Williams and Damien Scott. Sunday was also the 20th anniversary of the movie, with many considering it a cult-classic, the room was full to eagerly listen to the stars come back together.
The lineup for the day consisted of performances by Flipp Dinero, MixedByAli, City Morgue, Kodie Shane, A Boggie Wit Da Hoodie, Tinashe, Lil Baby, T-Pain, Action Bronson and Future.
Overall it was a great celebration of culture coming together. With many people from different places uniting together in one building, it’s only natural for them to come together for next year’s ComplexCon 2019.
