Missy Elliott has made history once again by becoming the first female rapper to be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She may become the third rapper ever to enter the Hall of Fame, with Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri already honored. “I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers,” Missy posted on Twitter.
Missy has been prolific throughout the years. Having written hits like “So Gone” for Monica, 702’s “Where My Girls At,” and worked on “Lady Marmalade” featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya, and Pink. Missy’s career is extensive. Having worked with the likes of Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, SWV & Total, and having written for Beyonce and Whitney Houston, she’s well deserved of the honors.
In addition to Elliott, other nominees include: Mariah Carey, Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Mike Love and many more.
The ceremony is set to take place in New York on June 13th, 2019.
