Earlier this week Kevin Durant opened the doors to The Durant Center, with the goal being helping underprivileged kids in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Durant reportedly partnered with Oakland’s College Track to help work on The Durant Center last winter. It all finally came together Wednesday night as he’s looking to make an impact in his community.

Durant has pledged $10 million over the next decade to the program. The ultimate goal for the program is to provide “academic, financial and social-emotional support” for new high school students of low-income areas. The organization will have a 10-year plan implemented that is set to help students all the way up to their college graduation by providing tutoring and scholarships.

“The full circle stuff that you dream about,” said Durant, who grew up in the Suitland neighborhood, virtually across the street from the education center that now bears his name. “So many people that meant so much to me at that time, and to see my name on the building … ” Durant told The Washington Post.

69 students have been accepted to the after-school program as of now based on their “grades and their overall motivation,” with a strong focus on their backgrounds.
