Kawhi Leonard isn’t taking the usage of his “Klaw” logo lightly. Earlier this week, Leonard slapped Nike with a federal lawsuit because the clothing company is preventing him from using the logo, which he reportedly designed on his own. According to the suit, the Jordan Brand only “refined” the logo between December 2011 and January 2012, and Nike was allegedly only supposed to use it for certain products. Leonard claims that Nike had actually filed a copyright application for the emblem and that he was told to stop using the logo for any type business related purposes.
Leonard’s previously used the “Klaw” badge on many Jordan models, including his Air Jordan 1 Retro High the Air Jordan 6 “Ring Ceremony” PE. When he left the Jordan Brand back in November 2018, he announced a new partnership with New Balance and officially became the main man in the company in February.
The nine-page lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of California. A Nike representative has also told CNN that the company will not comment on any pending litigations. Leonard has also not made any statements, according to the Raptors.
