The expectations for Toy Story 4 were extremely high. With high expectations for Toy Story‘s fourth installment, the sales for the weekend box office were set at $100 million-plus for domestic sales. The numbers have officially come in and they didn’t disappoint.

According to Variety, Toy Story 4 became the number one film at the box office, as it collected a total of $118 million dollars in ticket sales across the United States. Audiences worldwide waited almost nine years since Toy Story 3, so the high numbers come as no surprise. Even then, sales throughout the international markets allowed the franchise to bring in a total of $238 million dollars.

Executives at Disney have since stated that the numbers for Toy Story 4 are excellent for their first weekend. “Looking at these four hugely popular ‘Toy Story’ films in 25 years, there’s remarkable consistency to what Pixar puts out,” said Cathleen Taff, Disney’s president of global distribution. “It’s a testament to the team’s commitment to excellence.”

“Toy Story 4” currently ranks as the third movie this year to cross the $100 million dollar mark during its opening weekend. The other two films that ranked with that same mark were “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers: Endgame,” coincidentally both were Disney movies as well.
