Public Enemy legend Chuck D is taking his record label to court, as he looks to regain control of his music catalog because he believes the company schemed him out of some money. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the legendary rapper has filed a lawsuit against his label for stealing close to the sum of one million dollars.

Chuck D signed a deal with Reach Global Music and Terrodome Music Publishing back in 2001, but was not aware of how the money was being handled until early this year. The rapper believes his label knew he did not know the business, so for about 18 years the company reportedly stole from him. According to the documents, Chuck D says he lost 42% of his catalog and that there were shady transactions made to hide money from him.

Chuck D is looking for ownership of his catalog. With many more artists looking to make this move, it would be smart for Chuck to do so.
