MC Serch stops by 935 KDay and shares a wild story about MC Hammer putting a hit on him. He also discusses getting Nas a deal and why he doesn’t like being called a pioneer.

Serch talks about life growing up in New York and being exposed to the early sounds of hip hop and the culture of recorded house party mixes. Serch tells Noah Ayala, “There was no rap radio. So there was no hip-hop business. There was no recorded music. There was no produced music. There was no programming, there was no mix show, there was no DJ, there was no station. There was no advertisers. There were cassette tapes of dudes rocking parties and that was it.” Serch Goes on to explain, “Because we were in Far Rockaway, and we used to call Far Rockaway Alcatraz, there was only one way on and one way off, we weren’t going to the parties in Brooklyn. We wasn’t going to the parties in the Bronx. So we would get third and fourth generation cassette tapes of like Crash Crew, and all of this.”

Serch also talks how he helped negotiate Nas’ record deal with Columbia records and shares a throwback moment from KDAY.
