Last week’s news of the passing of beloved hip-hop legend Biz Markie was a loss that the hip-hop community felt deeply. As we have experienced great loss over the past few months, with the deaths of the late DMX, Shock G, and Black Rob, hip-hop has banded together to honor and pay their respects.

As Biz struggled over the years with diabetes complications, he sadly succumbed to those same difficulties this past Friday, July 16. As we continue to remember the multi-faceted artist, Markie’s Tara Hall has shared that unyielding support and love came from not only family and friends in the hip-hop, but noted that Fat Joe called her every day prior to Biz’s death. Hall told TMZ, “as soon as Joe heard the news, he was on the phone every single week with her, checking in on Biz, on Tara, and the rest of their loved ones, to see if they needed anything, and to let them know he was there for them financially or otherwise.”
Last June, Biz entered the hospital due to diabetes complications that Fat Joe has never hesitated to be there as a friend. Hall also noted that Joe even offered to cover memorial and funeral costs but she politely declined.
Joe has always expressed his admiration for the late talent and his respect has never wavered.
RIP Biz!
