Last night’s Emmys broadcast opened with a special moment that was surprisingly unexpected but greatly appreciated for hip-hop.
With comedic legend Cedric The Entertainer holding down hosting duties for the 73rd annual airing, the night began with a tribute and salute to the late Biz Markie, whom we lost back in July. Lead by the one and only LL Cool J, the special moment was marked with appearances from Hollywood staples Rita Wilson, rapper and actor Lil Dicky, and of course Ceddy himself.

Using Biz’s iconic hit “Just A Friend,” the Emmys crowd pumped up the moment as LL, Dicky, and Wilson spit special bars for the television’s biggest night. The nod to the late Markie had the entire crowd in a pass the mic mood, as the infectious hit was echoed throughout the party.
Biz passed back on July 16, after suffering complications from diabetes. May Biz continue to rest in heaven and his legacy continue to uplift and inspire.
